Schools

Our mission statement at Leeds West Academy is ‘Every learner succeeds, is valued, and makes a positive contribution’. We know that success is built on strong, mutually respectful relationships between staff and students united to achieve the best possible results for the young people in our learning community. As a large secondary institution, the academy will ensure that every student has clear support as an individual, in order that they can develop their confidence, knowledge and skills as learners within a smaller, human scale environment. To this end, students belong to one of three ‘schools’ within the Academy.

Foundation school caters for years 7 and 8, the Intermediate School for years 9and 10, and the High School for years 11, 12, and 13. School Leaders are assisted by year managers and Learning Project Leaders in each area, all of whom have special responsibility for the welfare and academic development of their school students. Schools have assemblies together, celebration events together, and work together during Citizenship Theme Days and Immersion Curriculum Experience Weeks.

Additionally, each school has a large team of coaches who work with Home Teams of around nine students, supporting their academic, personal, and social development within twice-weekly Coaching sessions.

At Leeds West Academy we place the learner at the heart of everything we do.
