LWA will close as normal at 2:40 for the Easter holidays on Thursday 28 March. We will open as normal on Monday 15th April for the summer term.

Twenty students from the Intermediate School (Years 9 and 10) have been working on a special programme hosted by KPMG Leeds.
Please note - despite the weather we are open today as normal. Our phone systems were temporarily out of action but have now been restored. Please be careful on the roads and pavements around the academy site when collecting your child, they are extremely icy!

Keri (13KMC) has reached the regional finals of Open Mic UK 2012.
Our open evening will take place on Tuesday 25th September from 6:00.
Two LWA students have gained places at the prestigious Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
LWA students are celebrating outstanding GCSE results - highlighted by a rise of 12% from last year in those achieving A*-C inc. English and Maths

Year 11 Social Enterprise students have successfully created a family outdoor area at The Globe pub in Bramley.
Mr Majid, fresh from a visit to Everest with a Walking with the Wounded team, lit a beacon on Snowdon as part of the jubilee celebrations last week.
Technology students in Year 8 have been busy preparing their entries for the ‘Cooking for the Queen’ competition.
The LWA rabbits had a great Easter thanks to the Year 11 Enterprise and Initiative group.
Students from Summerfield Primary School recently joined us for a lesson lead by our Year 9 BTEC Childcare students.

On Monday 31st January the Year 7 boys athletics team competed in the Leeds finals.
All Year 7 students will be taking part in a residential activity programme at Bramhope Scout Centre during February ICE Week.
Today staff had their first day in the new Leeds West Academy building, the culmination of many years of planning and hard work!
Another set of significantly improved results in public examinations has been cause for celebration at Leeds West Academy for students and staff, a fitting finale as everything is packed up and ready to move to the new school.
Congratulations to all our students who have received their results – you should be proud of what you have achieved!

Six students at Leeds West Academy have flown to Namibia on the trip of a lifetime.
Students at Leeds West Academy managed to ‘get one over’ on their teachers during the Leeds 10K race on Sunday 19th June. Dean (10SBi) completed the run through Leeds city centre in a phenomenal time of 38 minutes, finishing in 31st place out of over 10,000 participants.
Charlie Clark has won the ‘most promising newcomer’ award at the Yorkshire Royal Television Society Awards.
On Sunday 8 May 2011 a group made up of Years 7, 8 and 9 students took part in the 2.5km Leeds Junior Fun Run.
On Thursday 12 May LWA entered two teams in the under 12’s Leeds girls tag rugby tournament.
In early March LWA welcomed Ofsted to show Her Majesty's Inspector of Schools just how well we are doing. We were even more delighted to receive a letter from HMI outlining their views on our progress.
On Monday 28th March some Year 8 spent the day at Carlton Bolling College in Bradford. The purpose of the visit was to increase student awareness of other cultures and religions.

Mr Rand, Humanities teacher, had a visit from Leeds West MP and Shadow Cabinet Minister Rachel Reeves on Friday 11th March. Miss Reeves went ‘back to school’ - but this time it was as a teacher!

LWA has signed a unique partnership with the Leeds Rhinos, which started during a special PE camp over February half term.
Last week the Year 12 BTEC students gave the LWA Sixth Form Centre a ‘makeover.’
LWA’s pet rabbits, Pebbles and Sandy, have returned to their home in the quad after an extended Christmas break!
During the final week of term LWA students generously donated money, toys and games to the Radio Aire 'Cash for Kids' appeal.
The Academy will be open on Friday 3rd December an hour later than usual at 9:30. Upon arrival students should go straight to their normal lesson for Period 2. The day will end early and students will be sent home at 2:10.
Leeds West Academy's Christmas production of Scrooge will be performed nightly from 7th - 10th December 2010. Each performance will commence at 7:30. View Scrooge Site

On the 25th September brothers Jack (Year 9) and Ben (Year 11) took part in the 3 Peaks Challenge along with friends to help raise money for DebRA, (a national charity working on behalf of people in the UK with the genetic skin blistering condition EB, Epidermolysis Bullosa).
Becks (Year 10) recently won the Yorkshire judo championship in Goole.
Charlie (Year 12) has just finished filming for the upcoming BBC One production of South Riding by Winifred Holtby.
Every Wednesday in term-time between now and Christmas, Leeds West Academy is hosting a multi-sports club for Primary School students in Years 4, 5 and 6.
On Monday 11th October Year 12 and 13 BTEC students flexed their mime skills with an external Mime Coach
LWA’s ‘Eco Textiles’ EEP group has very busy this term and will shortly make a significant impact in the lifestyles of our students.

Leeds West Academy recently ran their first ever residential activity programme during Summer 2010 ICE Week. The whole of Year 7 were split into two groups, each spending two nights at Bramhope Scout Camp in North Leeds during the final week of the academy year.

On Wednesday 21st July twelve LWA students presented a selection of their finest work at E-ACT’s London office on Oxford Street.
Leeds West Academy students ended the year on a high note as they completed various stages of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

On Sunday 4th July Leeds West Academy ran a water station at the Jane Tomlinson ‘Run for All’ event.
Leeds West Academy’s first ever Presentation Evening on June 30th was attended by 500 students, staff, parents, carers and dignitaries.
Leeds West Academy will have an Open Day on Saturday 3rd July, 9:30am – 12:00pm.
This will be an opportunity to meet our students, staff and learn more about our exciting plans for the future, including our £30m new building due to open September 2011!

A reminder to Parents and Carers that the Intermediate School consultation evening is taking place tonight (Wednesday 5th May), 4:00 - 7:00pm.
A text message has been sent to Parents and Carers of our Year 9 and 10 students and some appointments should have been made by students and their teachers. However if you have no appointment scheduled please come along and you will be able to make one upon arrival.

All of Year 9 are taking internal end of Key Stage 3 tests in English, maths and science on 4th, 5th & 6th May 2010. Individual timetables for year 9 pupils will be circulated in coaching, and below is the schedule for the week.

Hannah of Year 8 has won the CWDC (Country and Western Dance Council) European solo title!

In December 2009 LWA received a visit from Rachel Reeves, Labour Parliamentary Candidate for Leeds West. Joined by LWA Principal Annette Hall, Finance Director Mike Gidley and the team of architects and designers she viewed the latest plans for the new building, due to open in Sept 2011.
Rachel was very impressed by what she had seen: "It’s great to see these plans coming together. The next few years will be a really exciting time for Leeds West Academy, and the new building will help the academy tremendously."
Annette said, "Local partners and representatives from the DCSF have endorsed the design for the academy as innovative and inspirational. The new LWA building will deliver a 21st century learning environment which will be an asset for the whole community."

Fantastic news - as previously reported Tila and Tavelah Robinson had been put through to the semi final of School’s Got Talent. We are pleased to announce that Jorden Murgatroyd was voted through to the next round (thank you for everybody’s votes!) and Keri Cromack was also put through as the wild card!
The production follows the adventures of the naïve yet optimistic Charity, a dance hall hostess in 1960's New York.

- Tuesday 10th November at 11.25 due to the 'meet the coaches' sessions taking place in the afternoon
- Friday 11th December at 12.15 due to staff training and planning sessions in the afternoon
Deanna Carey, Year 10, has been successful in securing a place in the prestigious National Art and Design Saturday Club. Deanna was one of only 25 young people chosen from almost a hundred hopeful applicants in the city of Leeds.
