Best Results Ever! Congratulations to all our talented students and well done to our hard-working staff!
Another set of significantly improved results in public examinations has been cause for celebration at Leeds West Academy for students and staff, a fitting finale as everything is packed up and ready to move to the new school.
5A*-C including English and maths GCSE scores improved by 7 percentage points again, taking our improvement from the predecessor school in 2008 from 21% to 44%! A significant uplift in the top grades was also seen with some outstanding individual performances. Our specialist subject, English, again performed at an excellent level with 65% of students gaining a C or above in this key subject.
Average points scores for post 16 students also leapt up, with a score of 774 against last year's 688 - showing the sixth form performance at LWA is amongst the highest in the city.
Chair of Governors, Tom Peryer OBE, said:
'I think you will all agree that these are a really excellent set of results and further confirmation of the very good progress Leeds West is making in raising standards. This is not a blip or an up-and-down curve but a steady year-on-year improvement over recent years - the best, most solid and sustainable kind of progress.'
Principal Annette Hall is delighted with the achievements of her students:
'This is a fantastic set of results just as the academy is poised to take another leap forward with the move into our inspirational new building.’
