GCSE results advice

Congratulations to all our students who have received their results – you should be proud of what you have achieved!

If however you did not get the results you were hoping for, here are a few pointers on what to do:

  • Don’t panic!  There’s always other options available, talk to your teachers and look on the internet at what else is available in terms of your next step
  • Have a sense of perspective – Not getting the results you desired is not the end of the world – there’s always a way to fix the problem, even if it means resitting some exams next year
  • A failed exam will not stop you getting where to where you want to be in the future
  • Don’t be hasty – If you are going to look at something different to what you had planned now you’ve got your results, weigh up all the available options before you commit yourself
  • Get advice – The following websites are very helpful and contain information, advice and numbers to call:

In terms of entry requirements for Leeds West Academy sixth form, all Year 11 students have been made conditional offers unless they were academic pathway applicants in which case most have had permanent offers made. Conditional offers are as follows:

For courses which involve BTEC and A level combinations i.e. all level 3 study the minimum requirement is 5 GCSE grades or equivalents (including English and maths). Some exceptions can be made to this if they have a particular talent in their major option in which case they need to see Miss Rose asap to confirm place.

If you have been offered a conditional place just for BTEC courses at L3 the offer is for 5 A-C grades with an expectation that they will resit GCSE English and Maths as necessary.

We have one Level 2 course on offer, Beauty Therapy, and for this the requirement is 5 A-G grades or equivalents. This course is currently full unless current applicants decide not to take up their offer.

We still have some places available on other sixth form courses and if students are interested they should contact Miss Rose on rosejh01@leedslearning.net or come into the academy on the 9th September in the afternoon for an interview.
