Duke of Edinburgh's Award News
Starting at the Cow and Calf rocks in Illkley, camping at Bramhope and finishing in Bramley, the two days were the culmination of months of training and preparation.
Overcoming intense heat, heavy rucksacks, torrential rain, blisters and the odd case of sunburn, all involved displayed tremendous teamwork skills and determination and received a hero’s welcome on their return to LWA.
Last week groups of students also completed their Duke of Edinburgh's Award Silver level practice expedition or public service BTEC expedition unit. On Wednesday 13th July the students set off from Bolton Abbey and walked through the Valley of Desolation to climb Barden Fell and reach the summit at Simon's Seat and a height of 485m. They walked off Barden Fell and into Appletreewick for the first overnight camp. This was a very enduring and challenging hike but all succeeded.
Fantastic effort from all!
