Staff, students and parents/carers all gathered to celebrate and commend our students on their many successes this year in what has become one of the biggest occasions on the LWA calendar.

Top prize winners this year were Emily (12JRS - Achievement in the Face of Adversity Award), Amy (13LMI - Sponsor’s Award) and Nathan (11TDA - Governor’s Award).

Other prizes were given out on the night for subject progress, academic excellence, student leadership, 100% attendance and for overall excellence in all subjects throughout the year.  These applied to all year groups and showed the depth of talent that we have here at the academy.

The main speaker for the evening was Mike Tomlinson, who concluded the evening with a moving speech to those in attendance.  Mike and his three children fundraise to help childrens’ and cancer charities across Yorkshire, the UK and the world in the name of his late wife Jane Tomlinson CBE, who raised nearly £2m during her own battle with cancer before her death in 2007.

Overall it was a fantastic occasion and we congratulate all those who were nominated or won on the evening!
