LWA Sixth-Former becomes MP for the day!
Arran (yr12) saw at first hand the work MP Rachel Reeves does in her constituency. National Takeover Day is an annual event where young people step into the shoes of Chief Executives, MPs and professionals in all walks of life for the day.
Arran went to all of Rachel’s meetings for the day, to see first hand what an MP does. He said, ‘I really enjoyed my day with Rachel. She works really hard and we attended a series of interesting meetings at schools and with Councillors and local people. I thank her for giving me such a great opportunity.’
Rachel was also enthusiastic about the experience: ‘I really enjoyed having Arran with me for the day – it was a great opportunity for him to find out about my day to day role. Takeover Day is a great chance for young people to get involved in democracy and big organisations, and I thank the Childrens’ Commissioner for running it – though I’m not sure I expected to be handing over the reins just a few months after being elected in May!’
Also as part of National Takeover Day, a group of LWA students were invited to meet Education Leeds executives in Merrion House in Leeds City Centre. After having lunch and fielding questions on their opinions of the state of education and the ‘child-friendliness’ of Leeds city centre, the students then gave their opinions on the Education Leeds offices and how they could be improved! All three involved were fantastic ambassadors for LWA: Danny (yr8), Beth (yr9) and Jordanna (yr9) - Congratulations, great job!
