Ben and Jack Conquer the Three Peaks
On the 25th September brothers Jack (Year 9) and Ben (Year 11) took part in the 3 Peaks Challenge along with friends to help raise money for DebRA, (a national charity working on behalf of people in the UK with the genetic skin blistering condition EB, Epidermolysis Bullosa).
Starting early, the group tackled Pen-y-ghent, followed by Whernside and then finally Ingleborough. Whilst a physically gruelling task, they were delighted with a finishing time of 11 hours and 50 minutes and managed to raise £400 for their chosen cause.
To prepare for the walk Jack and Ben did 10-15k runs and walks to ensure they were prepared and in good condition. Both lads love physical and outdoor activities, and now feel inspired to start looking at their next challenge – the Jane Tomlinson 10k run. Jack is proud of their achievement:
‘Barring a few tricky potholes that I fell into, everything went smoothly and we finished the route in one piece. I did manage to ruin a fairly new pair of boots, but am proud to have been involved in such a worthwhile event. The highlight of the day was the team spirit that was shown during the day.’
