LWA Student Stars in Major BBC Production
Charlie (Year 12) has just finished filming for the upcoming BBC One production of South Riding by Winifred Holtby.
Adapted by Andrew Davies, Charlie plays one of the lead characters and stars alongside notable actors such as David Morissey, Penelope Wilton, Anna Maxwell Martin, John Henshaw and Douglas Henshall.
Filmed in Kirkstall, Bradford, York and on the Skipsea cliffs during August and September, Charlie stars as Lydia Holly, a fourteen year old girl with a difficult home life who is losing touch with her education. She beat many other hopefuls through a series of auditions for the part:
‘The auditions were good, although I was very nervous for the second one! I really enjoyed working with Shaun Dooley and Jennifer Hennesy who play my mum and dad in
the show.’
Having previously appeared in other series, Charlie is optimistic such a major part bodes well for her future:
‘I’ve just auditioned for a role in Shameless and I’ll be going to meet an acting agency in London soon. In the future I just want to be an actress as I love the idea of being on screen - it’s a very exciting industry.’
South Riding will be broadcast on BBC One later this year.
