Foundation School Residential Receives Rave Reviews
Leeds West Academy recently ran their first ever residential activity programme during Summer 2010 ICE Week. The whole of Year 7 were split into two groups, each spending two nights at Bramhope Scout Camp in North Leeds during the final week of the academy year.
All students undertook a challenging and exciting series of activities during the day, which included mountain biking, rock climbing, orienteering and also tackling the site's assault course. Over their two evenings, students took part in a quiz, a night walk to the local Chevin Forest and on the Thursday a camp fire which for many was the highlight of the week.
As well as taking part in their activities, all students took on various responsibilities during their stay, which included cooking an evening meal and preparing packed lunches for the following day.
The week away was a resounding success and hopefully will be repeated next year for our new Year 7 students. A huge 'thank-you' must go to all staff who gave up their time to support the week away, especially those who were able to stay overnight at the camp site. The main focus of appreciation however must be Mr Halligan, who worked tirelessly for several months to ensure that all staff and students were provided with a safe, exciting and invigorating experience on the residential.
