LWA's first Duke of Edinburgh's Award entrants complete their expeditions!
Leeds West Academy students ended the year on a high note as they completed various stages of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
44 students headed out to Bramhope Scout Camp to embark upon a split week of training for and completing their expeditions – 36 at Bronze level and 8 at Gold level.
On Monday 19th July all students brushed up on their camp craft skills and completed a guided walk where navigation skills and group leadership were tested. For the following two days students completed their assessed expeditions under limited remote supervision. Hiking from the Cow and Calf, Ilkley back to LWA including an overnight camp, students were supervised and were entirely self-sufficient.
All students displayed outstanding leadership skills, as well as facing up to the challenge of the heavy rainfall on the Tuesday and Thursday!
Mr Clark helped organise the expeditions and was very impressed with the students’ effort:
‘We're extremely proud of all students who participated this week completing their Bronze level expeditions. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a fantastic scheme to be involved in and it’s progressing rapidly here at LWA.’
All students completed their expeditions with passes and demonstrated massive personal and team efforts – we are very proud of them all! Click for full gallery of images from the trip
