Science and Environment

The aim in Science is to ensure that all students have the opportunity to engage with new ideas and explore what interests them.  Core to our approach is the idea that students should be able to learn through practical experiences and investigation.  Topics are themed to encourage students to think about how Science influences the world around them and how it will shape their lives and futures.

Science has a large range of equipment to help enrich lessons from Year 7 to year 13; this year we have added an interactive wildlife garden to be used for lessons and after-school enrichment.   We offer a variety of activities for year, including Astronomy, Wildlife gardening and Science club; there are also 7 different revision and support classes that run through the year.

We have made a big move towards widening pupil choices in Science and now offer 3 different GCSE options as well as two options Post-16.  All students in Year 9 can gain GCSE accreditation points in courses on Healthy eating and Safety and for the most able students in Year 9 there is also the chance to start GCSE Science early and work towards the Triple Science option.  Every student can access the Science curriculum and everyone has something to suit their needs and interests.
