Working with the Ahead Partnership, Premier Farnell and Leeds Beckett University, Year 10 GCSE Textile students have been designing and fabricating a garment that uses computer programming to help improve a modern-lifestyle situation.
Students created a children's garment with the intention of assisting young people to communicate. The garment featured a code bug that helped children express how they felt, assisting them to learn new words and different languages. The technology also had a heat sensor so that adults knew if the child was too hot or cold.
As part of the project students also investigated modern and smart materials and used these within their garments. This opportunity has helped to introduce students to computer programing, giving them an opportunity to work collaboratively across the STEM subjects at an advanced level.
