The Lion King Update
Rehearsals are well underway for Leeds West Academy's whole school production of The Lion King. Over 90 students have auditioned for the world-famous musical, representing all year groups across the Academy.
Head of Performing Arts, Ms Cant, said during rehearsals: "It is fantastic to see so many students wanting to be part of this show, and it's a real pleasure to have students audition from the Intermediate and High schools who have not been involved in our previous productions. For the first time we have also cast a specific group of Principal Dancers, who will be involved in the more complex dance pieces in the show, as well as a group of Principal Vocalists, who will boost the harmonies in the ensemble pieces."
The Principal Cast are again a mixture of students from across the Academy, from Foundation School (Dylan Miles Davies and Troy Tipple, who are both playing the role of Simba) to Sixth Form (Shauna Nicholl as Mufasa).
Ms Cant added: "We have a big job to beat last year’s Hairspray production, but we have every confidence that this year’s production will be our best ever! The show will be performed from 9th – 11th March and tickets will be available from February onwards."
