Leeds West Academy

Student of the Week

The Art of Outstanding Performance

Congratulations to Harry in Year 11, who is Leeds West Academy's student of the week.

Throughout this year, Harry has been dedicating much of his free time to rehearsals for the whole-school production of The Wiz, which opened in the Academy Theatre on Tuesday 28th March.

The Wiz is a Seventies' Motown musical by Charlie Smalls and William F. Brown and is an urbanized retelling of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Harry plays Uncle Henry and the title character of The Wiz in Leeds West Academy's bold new staging.

Ms Cant, Head of Performing Arts and Producer-Director of The Wiz, said: "Harry has attended all rehearsals and has really honed his acting skills and has been a great member of the company. He was one of the first to be off-script and he has great energy on stage. A very believable fake wizard!"

Mr Wheeler adds: "The whole cast and crew of The Wiz could easily qualify for Student of the Week at the end of this term - the production of this show is a remarkable achievement. However, the award goes to Harry for demonstrating years of incredible Performing Arts talent, which has certainly reached new heights in his performance of The Wiz. Harry has not just showcased his singing ability, but his dedication to drama and dance too. Well done Harry!"

Who will be the next Student of the Week? It could be you...
