An excellent opportunity to explore the world of Higher Education

On Thursday 14th September, Leeds West Academy's Year 13 students attended a Sports Taster Day at Leeds Trinity University. The event took place as part of our relationship with Go Higher West Yorkshire and was supported by IntoUniversity.

A number of activities took place throughout the day, including a practical sports taster session, UCAS personal statement support and a lecture on the careers available in the industry after completing a sports degree. The students were also taken on a tour of the Leeds Trinity University campus, with a particular focus on their sports facilities which includes a £2.2 million sport and fitness centre.

At the end of the event, the students were treated to a speech by the former Great Britain Rugby League captain, Jamie Peacock and current Leeds Rhinos player, Jamie Jones-Buchanan. This was followed by an opportunity to ask advice and request autographs and photographs.

Jane Dickinson of IntoUniversity said: “The students were absolutely brilliant and a real credit to your school!”

Ms Collins, LWA’s Higher Education Progression Officer, added: “Subject taster days are an excellent opportunity to explore the world of Higher Education. They offer the chance to try out university facilities, ask questions and gain insight into the life of an undergraduate student.”
