Sixth Form Results Day
A day of celebration and success
Students across the country collected their Sixth Form results this morning and at Leeds West Academy, our Year 12 and Year 13 students were celebrating their own achievements.
Leeds West Academy staff were on hand to provide guidance with entry into University and next steps into careers. Mr Rand, the new Head of Sixth Form, said this morning: "We're celebrating outstanding results today at Leeds West Academy, with top grades from so many students in addition to incredible progress across both year groups."
Aiden was one of many who received top grades this year: "I got an A in Chemistry and Physics and an A* in Maths - and also an A in my Extended Project Qualification. So my next step is to go to the University of Leeds to read Theoretical Physics. I'm hoping my future career will be in research."
Niki in Year 13 also excelled in Science, achieving five As across her subjects. Niki, who wants to eventually secure a career working within hospital laboratories, said: "I feel amazing - I didn't know I'd do so well! So now I'm going to King's College in London to study Biomed. I can't wait!"
Leeds West Academy is also celebrating its first medic, Sam, who qualified for his further studies at Lancaster University in October: "Today I got distinctions across the board, so now I'm going to Lancaster to study Medicine. The teachers at Leeds West encouraged me to strive at every stage. I'm very grateful for their help and inspiration. Now I can't wait to get started at University."
Chloe in Year 13 also secured remarkable grades: "I got a distinction star in Business and Sport, As in Extended Project and Media Studies and a B in English Literature. I'm over the moon! I've chosen to go to Sheffield Hallam, as I fell in love with the University when I first visited it."
Mr Wilcocks adds: "It's been an incredible day at the Academy, with students and staff celebrating superlative results. Our ambitious Sixth Form have surpassed themselves this year, achieving highly across the STEM, Arts and Sports subjects. I am delighted and proud of our young people and would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our dedicated staff for their constant support and inspirational teaching. Year 13 leave us today after a long learning journey at our school; we now wish them all the very best for the future, be that in vibrant careers or in higher education. Well done everyone - continue to be the best that you can be in all that you do."
