On Track with DJ School UK
This term, Year 8 students have been taking part in DJ workshops run by the fantastic Leeds-based, non-profit organisation, DJ School UK, at Leeds West Academy.
Students attend the lessons in pairs for 20 minutes a week on a rotation basis; so they aren’t always missing the same portion of their lessons.
At the end of the term, the students will have learnt simple DJ skills and will produce their own mix.
In recent years, DJing has been a huge success with students achieving full marks in their music GCSE. We have also had students go on to employment as professional DJs through the ongoing lessons.
Ms Kurij said: “This kind of arts provision has been proven to show increase in engagement, attainment, attendance and behaviour for a variety of students, not only in music but across other curriculum areas.”
