Level Up Booster Sessions

Combining learning with baking and sport.

This half term break, 30 Year 7 pupils have attended extra study sessions called Level Up at Leeds West Academy.

The engaging intervention programme is set up to identify and help close the gaps in pupils’ maths skills by combining learning with fun; using baking and sports activities as a focus point.

During the cookery sessions with Ms Hutchinson, the students investigated ratio and quantity whilst baking cupcakes and in the sport and fitness lessons, they covered graph work and proportion.

Ms Hutchinson said: “The days have been thoroughly enjoyable for both pupils and staff. We have seen progress and achievement in a short space of time.”

The students found the sessions extremely beneficial:

Amy said: “I didn't want to come into school during the holidays but the days have been fun and I really think my work has improved."

Charlotte added: "the days have been fun and I now feel more confident in my maths; plus the buns tasted fab!"
