GCSE English Revision Guides
Guidance & Support for Year 11
Students study towards two GCSE qualifications in English; GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature. For GCSE English Literature, students need to be familiar with the following texts:
1. A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens
2. An Inspector Calls, by J.B. Priestley or Blood Brothers, by Willy Russell
3. Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare
4. The Eduqas GCSE Poetry Anthology, comprising of 15 poems with different thematic links
All of the GCSE English Literature exams are closed book, which means students are required to learn and memorise a certain number of quotes for each text, which they can then draw upon in the examination.
Below in the Key Documents section are two revision booklets for GCSE English Literature; one for each of the two exam components. Each booklet outlines the ‘Essentials’ – the quotes that students should be learning as a minimum, in order to be able to comment on a range of potential questions in exam conditions.
Students can also use the LWA Big Six Revision Strategies in order to consolidate their understanding of these key quotes.
