Starlights crowned GRAND CHAMPIONS at Future Cheer’s School’s Out contest
This term, the LWA Starlight Cheerleaders competed against schools from across the country at the Future Cheer School's Out Competition in Bournemouth. For the second year running, the Academy is delighted to announce that the team were crowned Grand Champions of the Year.
The School's Out Competition is the United Kingdom’s best-known Schools and Colleges competition, famous for showcasing schools’ leading cheerleading teams from around the country. The competition is coordinated by Future Cheer, who have been the driving force in the development and expansion of the UK Cheer & Dance industry since it was established in November 2004. Future Cheer said: “We believe Cheerleading is much more than just a sport - it is a great way to learn life skills that will serve athletes well for years to come.”
Ms Johnston, Leeds West Academy Cheerleading Coach, adds: “Our girls have endless talent and make me tremendously proud. They give up hours and hours to practice and perform within our community. We have a strong fundraising team of parents who work closely with us and continue to provide funds to help us reach competitions far and wide. I can't thank them enough.”
The School’s Out Competition is the final contest of the season and the team brought back four 1st place awards, a 3rd place award and one 4th place award, in addition to being named Grand Champions 2017. This huge achievement follows a year of success, where the Starlights have won many trophies, including awards from Disneyland Paris. The Starlights also won the Grand Champions award in 2016.
Megan, Year 7 Starlight Cheerleader, comments: "As a new Year 7 student, my first year with the Starlight Cheerleaders has been amazing. I loved competing in Bournemouth and I’m looking forward to continuing my journey with the squad into the 2017-2018 season."
