Leeds West Academy

CT Day 2

The second CT Day of the academic year was held on 28th February. Citizenship Training days offer unique opportunities for students from all year groups to actively engage in numerous workshops and events, developing skills in equality, diversity, health and personal wellbeing.

Highlights this term included yoga and self-calming techniques in the dance studio, with Tchoukball and diverse teambuilding exercises. The Academy also welcomed back the team from Human Utopia, who worked with Year 9 throughout the day, focusing on personal, social and enterprise development.

Students in Year 11 also enjoyed a Sixth Form Taster Day, experiencing life at A-Level with a diverse range of lessons, seminars and tutorials.

Principal Nick Hinchliffe said today: "The Academy thanks all of the innovative and inspirational speakers who have worked with our students for CT Day. Our staff have also provided an incredible array of workshops and lessons, allowing students to rise up to the challenge of trying something new, whilst enriching their personal wellbeing. Feedback from today has been excellent and we look forward to similarly inspiring activities at the end of the term for ICE Week."

Foundation School Leader Mr Bullock added: "Year 7 experienced an energetic election day, preparing inspirational manifestos and party political broadcasts in the theatre. Congratulations to the Dark Blue Party in their victory for 2016, as well as all the other contending parties. CT days provide an exciting opportunity for collaborative work amongst students and teachers, developing health and wellbeing skills for life."
