Acting Principal's Update

Dear Parent/Carer,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for attending this week’s Meet Your Coach Day, which proved to be a vibrant and inspirational beginning to 2017.

As you will know from Nick Hinchliffe’s letter at the end of last term, I will be commencing my new role as Acting Principal at Leeds West Academy this term. In Nick’s new role as Head of Education for The White Rose Academies Trust, we will continue to work closely together in the Academy, providing the same high standard of education for all of our students. 2017 is very much the beginning of a new journey for the Academy, which will take our school from ‘good’ to ‘outstanding’ in three years. Working together, I am excited at the prospect of meeting that goal as a whole school community.

Next week we will be establishing our Core Values and Expectations, a project we have been developing closely with our School Council. One of these Expectations is Punctuality – demonstrating that we attend school on time, every time. As the winter weather bites in, we know how difficult it can be to get around so we expect a renewed effort to brace the chill to attend school every day. I am delighted to reveal that our students have maintained 95% attendance this week and we expect this standard to continue throughout the term.

2017 is set to be an exciting year for Leeds West Academy, offering endless opportunities in the classroom, on field trips and beyond. I will be writing to you each week to fill you in on our progress as a school community, whilst outlining what we’re doing to ensure your child is reaching their full potential. In the meantime, I recommend you explore our website, which will shortly be featuring our regular Student of the Week award, whilst showcasing outstanding work, stories of our activities and much more.
