Acting Principal's Update
Displaying and inspiring outstanding work
Despite the freezing conditions we’ve been experiencing of late, I’m delighted to report that our students have shown resilience in getting to school on time and fully equipped to learn. Thank you for ensuring our attendance is maintained, as this has a direct impact on the learning outcomes of every child.
Before I reflect on another busy and fruitful week at Leeds West Academy, I would first like to comment on a recent report surrounding safeguarding concerns involving some primary-age students in a school in Leeds. I’m proud to say that our school provides outstanding support and safeguarding for the student community, however, we must be all be mindful of the dangers of social media and smartphone applications, which schools cannot directly monitor. As such, I’d like to reinforce the value of our Year Managers, who are here to support you and your child in the event of any safeguarding concerns. We can also offer extended advice and support on E-Safety as part of the teaching and training we already provide within the PSHE Curriculum. For further guidance, please see www.leedswestacademy.org.uk/News/Maintaining-E-Safety.
This week we’ve seen some outstanding work being presented in our newly-installed display cabinets, which are mounted across the Academy in key areas. It is my vision to showcase as much of our students’ outstanding work as possible this year, so we can share and inspire our whole school community with the fruits of your child’s hard work. When you next visit the Academy you’ll be able to enjoy our new displays, which also provide additional advice and guidance on Academy life.
We’re a week away from our very popular ICE Week, which offers many activities with the options for Year 11 & Sixth Form to begin their crucial mock examinations. I’d like to direct students and parents towards our LWA Big Six Revision Tips, which offer unique methods of revision to ensure the best possible outcomes in exams. These are available online and as a handy downloadable PDF at www.leedswestacademy.org.uk/News/LWA-Big-6-Revision-Tips.
Finally, I would like to applaud our fantastic KS4/5 students for their outstanding performance of Road in the Leeds West Academy Theatre. It was a very well attended show which demonstrated incredible stagecraft and innovative direction from the Performing Arts department. Following this great piece of drama we’re now looking forward to our whole-school production of The Wiz, which is now in full production and promises to be as grand and ambitious as our earlier award-winning musicals. Tickets are now available on the Leeds West Academy website via ticket source at www.ticketsource.co.uk/leedswestacademy.
