A Message from The Principal
Maturity, kindness and respect following tragic events
It is with a heavy heart that I write to you today, following the tragic confirmation of the passing of one of our own students.
As you may be aware, following an incident in the Wyther Lane area of Leeds on Thursday 6th July, a young person was fatally injured. The child was a student at Leeds West Academy and today our whole school is devastated to receive this tragic news.
Today, we shared the sad news with students in individual assemblies. Our pastoral team and the local authority has provided incredible support to those students who needed it and the school day has continued in a calm manner, with students demonstrating maturity, kindness and respect. Over the next week we will be providing means for our students to pay their respects and share their memories as a whole school community.
Presently, all aspects of the incident are being handled by the emergency services, as the accident did not occur on Academy grounds. We are awaiting more information, which we will share with our wider community as it becomes available.
In the meantime, I would like to thank our local community for their support during this very painful time. May I please ask that we all respect the privacy of the family as we work together to support one another.
Should you wish to contact the Academy about the additional services we’re providing for students in light of recent events, please contact us on the school number or email LWAParents@whiteroseacademies.org.
